My name is Karine Johannes and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Sherman Oaks, California working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with young adults and specialize in treating depression, anxiety, and codependency.
My approach
My therapeutic style is compassionate, interactive, supportive, and tailored to the unique needs of each individual. My approach is trauma-informed, LGBTQ, and BIPOC-affirming. I assess each person from a holistic perspective and look forward to helping you with your healthcare concerns. I primarily utilize the therapeutic modalities Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My focus
My style and approach are a good fit for young adults who may be dealing with family conflict, life transitions, relationship issues, stress, professional burnout, compassion fatigue, or self-esteem issues. These circumstances can often result in anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns. I work with my clients to improve their self-concept and quality of life.
My communication style
My communication style is warm and accommodating. I will make gentle suggestions and inquiries but I pride myself on utilizing an empathetic tone. I meet the client where they are. I practice radical acceptance, a sense of humor and will always strive to display my compassion and understanding of the client's perspective. Attending therapy sessions is a vulnerable experience for many. I create an atmosphere of safety for the client.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I possessed the qualities and passion that made me well-suited for this work. I began with strong intuitive abilities which were refined into clinical skills through education, training, and life experience. I am a curious listener and lifelong learner, which I am able to practice during all my interactions with clients. I display a genuine interest and regard for the well-being of my clients. I also derive immense fulfillment from contributing toward healing or uplifting others. I feel grateful to do this work.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative. I will discuss therapeutic goals during the first intake session and work on tracking outcomes with the client on an ongoing basis. I also utilize outcome measures such as the GAD7 anxiety scale, PHQ9 depression scale, PCL-5 PTSD checklist, and the FIC feedback-informed care questionnaire which are the gold standard of quality care across health systems.
My first session with you
I begin the intake session by introducing myself to the client and inquiring about their experience with therapy. I establish rapport and ensure the client feels informed about the therapeutic process. We will begin discussing the client's history beyond the basic demographic information. I am mindful and sensitive to the clients' need to disclose at their own pace. This first session is an opportunity to establish a foundation of mutual understanding and trust prior to beginning work on therapeutic goals.
