Welcome to my profile. I am Sean Kennedy LCSW. As a Licenced Clinical Social Worker, I come from a strengths-based approach. This means I will never ask what is wrong with you but instead, what is right with you.
My approach
I know in this post-pandemic world it can be extremely stressful filled with anxiety and dread. It is always a good idea to have a friendly listening ear to help alleviate your depressive and anxiety feelings. I bring with me more than ten years of clinical experience in cognitive behavioral, narrative, and talk therapies. In addition, I work with clients who struggle with negative self-talk and other anxiety disorders. I also work with traumatic issues such as survivors of physical and emotional abuse. I work with childhood trauma as well using the psychodynamic approach.
My focus
I work with a diverse range of clients. The most common kinds of clients with whom I work are people like you who are going through the muck and mire of life. We all know life can get really hectic and we just need someone to help sort it all out. This can lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety. This is where I come in. I will sit with you through you trials and tribulations. My work deals with self-empowerment. We already have the answers to our issues the work is together we will find that answer. I am available for online teletherapy.
My communication style
The model for practice is strengths-based work where I meet the person where they are. I never ask what is wrong with you, I ask what is right with you. Using CBT, narrative approach, and DBT I work with your strengths to help resolve your issues. In addition to all of these modalities, I employ the psychodynamic approach in working with childhood trauma.
My goals for you
When it comes to goal setting, I let the client take the driver's seat. I believe you will be most committed to therapy when the plans and goals are coming from you. In the first two to three weeks we will lay out the goals and general direction of therapy.
My first session with you
In the first session, I like to call it the "getting to know you" session. I would ask various questions to help get to know you better. I will be giving you a PHQ-9 which assesses your depressive levels and the GAD-7 which assesses your level of anxiety.
