My name is Elizabeth Griffith-Tate and I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) by choice, led by a passion for my profession, and I have been providing therapy for more than a decade in San Diego, California. I have experience, education, and training in working with children, adolescents, adults, parents, couples, families of diverse backgrounds, adoptive families, foster families, and groups. I have worked in some of the most challenging settings, community centers, and private practice while staying connected with these communities and cultures.
My approach
My therapy approach varies depending on my client's needs and their desired outcome. My area of clinical expertise is Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT. I utilize various therapeutic approaches including family systems, communications, attachment-based, and collaborative approaches, focusing on the client.
My focus
I have found that my approach and style of therapy have been a solution for families, teens, young adults, military personnel, veterans, senior citizens, refugees, and parents. I am committed to working with my clients through their relationships and life-stage difficulties, including, but not limited to family conflict, peer relationships, marital/premarital counseling, parenting, self-esteem, work-related stress, return to work, military transition, caregiver stress, other family stressor, stress, grief and loss, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, and self-harm.
My communication style
My communication style is direct, compassionate, and personable, I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything. I believe in presenting resources, techniques, and psycho-education to utilize while working through the struggles of being stuck in lived experiences.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist was a natural path for me as I have always helped others, from my family to neighbors to being a community resource as a volunteer. Naturally as a mother, big sister, and loyal friend. I have been drawn to helping people and being solution-driven through challenging situations. It is my life's work to see individuals become their best versions of themselves, and live healthy lifestyles.
My goals for you
My approach to assisting the client with goal setting is to identify their concerns and set measurable, achievable, positive specific goals. These goals are worked on throughout the week. The goals are fluid and revisited each week for progress or modification.
My first session with you
Clients should expect their first session to be a platform for them to share their concerns. An opportunity for me to establish rapport and understanding of what their therapy sessions will be for them.
