Hello. My name is Joyce Caroll and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
My approach
My approach combines Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Psychodynamic, and Mindfulness theories depending on the client's needs.
My focus
I find that most of my clients are experiencing some form of depression and/or anxiety. Together we come up with a treatment strategy that includes positive coping skills, including exercise, nutrition, meditation, and developing hobbies or interests to provide more enjoyment in life. With couples, I find the most critical concerns are communication and mutual respect.
My communication style
My counseling style is compassionate yet directive.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is collaborative and client centered. I believe the client generally has the best knowledge of what he or she wants to change. We then work together to find ways that steps can be taken to move toward those changes. Whether it's changing one's reactions to others, adapting a more assertive communication style or just accepting one's feelings, change does take place.
My first session with you
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another from a collaborative viewpoint and it also involves information gathering to best assess needs and address presenting concerns.
