Hi, my name is Andres Hoyo, LMFT. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in the state of California with over 7 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. My approach to therapy is non-directional, and I focus on helping clients learn how to appropriately manage their emotions to gain an overall sense of well-being to enhance their ability to improve the quality of their lives.
My approach
My counseling style is non-directional and non-judgmental. I believe in allowing my clients to take more of a lead during sessions to create an experience of collaboration and self-discovery in clinical treatment. I strive to encourage and support my clients in finding their own solutions while using my perspective to identify the personal strengths they may be able to leverage to meet their goals. I do so by utilizing evidence-based modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness practices. I try to emulate a Rogerian, person-centered approach in treatment.
My focus
I typically work with clients who suffer from depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship issues, life stressors, and low self-esteem. I am most comfortable working with adults facing challenges appropriately managing depressive and anxiety issues.
My communication style
My goal in my sessions is to try to connect with my clients and gain their trust to provide a comfortable and relaxed experience that allows them to be genuine, express themselves, and process their most intimate emotions and thoughts with ease. In other words, I aim to make my clients feel they have a friend who will keep their disclosures to himself and will always have their best interest at heart.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a clinical therapist because I am a Christian, and I believe helping others with their emotional and personal challenges is my life's purpose. As a Christian, I believe in helping my neighbor and utilizing the gifts Almighty God has given me to help others. I believe in helping others to reduce their suffering and please Almighty God. This is what motivated me to become a clinical therapist.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as a collaborative effort. I believe in ensuring I am supporting and encouraging the goals the client has in their lives by helping them generate goals that are congruent with their values, aspirations, and capabilities. I believe this can be done by discussing the client's challenges and expectations of clinical treatment.
My first session with you
During the first session, my clients should expect to be able to discuss their present life challenges and expectations of treatment, while being informed of my experience as a clinician. In addition, by the end of the session, it is my goal that clients feel they have a good idea of whether or not I am the clinician that can support them through their mental health issues.
