Hi there, I'm Rodney!

Hello, Rod Louden here. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed to practice in California. I have been in practice since 2003. I combine Narrative Therapy, the main tenet being that it is the relationship with the problem that is the problem, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the main tenet being thoughts come before feelings, negative thoughts create negative feelings leading to relationships with anxiety, depression, fear, and other problematic mental states.

My approach

I combine Narrative Therapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am solution-focused and work with clients to make positive changes as quickly as possible. This is done by giving clients new tools and skills that will allow them to change their relationships with anxiety, depression, fear, etc. in order to liberate oneself from these oppressive forces.

My focus

I work with individuals, couples, and families. After 27 years, I retired from the Department of Children and Family Services, where I was a Supervising Children's Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor. I maintained my private practice as well. Thus, I have a ton of experience working with individuals, couples, and families to solve a myriad of problems.

My communication style

My goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment away from the chaos. I am blessed to have earned the trust of so many over the decades. I am not a therapist who just listens and asks, "how does that make you feel?" This is a collaboration. I am an ally in the process of change.

My journey to mental healthcare

When I was 17 years old, a sibling was diagnosed as being Bipolar. I spent a lot of time talking to my sibling, and one day after one of these conversations, my mother said, "You know, you would make a great therapist." The seed was planted. I love working with people to help create insights that can lead to positive life changes.

My goals for you

Our first few sessions will be about what goals the client wants to strive to reach. As insights are created, new goals may also be generated.

My first session with you

My goal is to ensure that a client will have a clear understanding regarding if I am a match for them. I help clients verbalize goals so that we have a clear understanding of what we want to accomplish through our work together.
