I'm Kathie, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I am an affirmative therapist that has experience working with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, communication, relationship issues, and dealing with life's transitions with the LBGTQIA+ community. I also have worked extensively with physical and emotional trauma.
My approach
My style of therapy is very eclectic, I draw from different types of healing modalities and theories and will utilize what suits your needs. I combine mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, existential, feminist, and narrative therapy. I don't believe in labeling or diagnosing a person for their experiences and weigh a lot of importance in language and how we use our words to make meaning.
My focus
I am willing to see minors (ages 13-17), couples, and individuals. My specialties include anger management, anxiety, depression, family conflict, LGBTQIA+ issues, life transitions, self esteem, sexual abuse, transgender issues, trauma and PTSD, stress, and relationship issues.
My communication style
I strongly believe it's important for me to understand where you are coming from, so I am always striving to maintain cultural awareness, competency, humility, and sensitivity.
My journey to mental healthcare
I began my clinical hours in June 2016 at PUC School located at 1405 N. San Fernando Boulevard, Suite 303, Burbank, CA 91504. I completed my clinical hours in August 2019 at Almansor Clinical Services, 205 Pasadena Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030.
My goals for you
We are born whole but things happen that make us forget or lose that wholeness; we have to learn and try new ways of helping ourselves feel complete again. I hope we can do that together.
My first session with you
First session usually begins with a lot of questions about family background and history of mental health, along with getting to know your personality and understanding what types of approaches and interventions could be most beneficial for you.
