My name is Krista and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker focused on Christian counseling utilizing Biblical principles. I am passionate about helping clients learn and apply healthy skills to work through difficult situations. Often thoughts and beliefs are overwhelming, interfering with daily activities and inhibiting positive relationships with others. I integrate scripture and practical tools to help clients work towards freedom from oppressive thinking patterns, improve relationships, and help foster hope.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-focused. You know your story best and should focus on what you want to work through or change. I engage in active listening and hope to encourage your personal relationship with God. I like to pull from various models of therapies to serve the unique needs of each client.
My focus
I have worked extensively with foster youth placed in out-of-home care as well as with their families. I have personal experience with military and first responders and the unique challenges they face. I use CBT, ACT, and Trauma-Focused Therapy incorporating Solution-Focused and Family Systems theories to treat depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, attachment issues, and life stressors.
My communication style
I strive to provide a non-judgmental, contemplative environment to allow you the space to verbalize and work through your journey. I want to focus on what is important to you as the client, hopefully encouraging paths to insight, healing, and positive growth.
My journey to mental healthcare
I love being a part of helping others gain the skills to navigate the stresses and difficulties of life. We all struggle at times and need others to walk alongside. I desire to encourage others in their walk with God, to point them to His perfect love so they can live an abundant life in His peace.
My goals for you
It is essential for clients to set goals, mainly to see their own growth and progress! Goal setting helps direct therapy sessions so you know what is working and what could work better. I like to separate out large goals into small, very specific, and achievable steps. We are naturally motivated more when we see success. Achieving even the smallest goal provides a sense of accomplishment and should be celebrated!
My first session with you
In the first session, I would like to hear what brings you to therapy. I want to hear your story and what is important to you. I would like to know what you expect from sessions and what you would like to focus on.
