Hi there, I'm Evlin!

My name is Evlin Abed and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. One of my core beliefs in therapy is that people can make changes in their thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. My approach is to provide a safe and caring environment with unconditional positive regard to facilitate and support meaningful life changes.

My approach

My approach in providing therapy is to work collaboratively with you in exploring deeper and gaining a better understanding of the roots of the present challenges, identify strengths, and work towards healing and growth using strength-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and trauma-focused approaches.

My focus

I have extensive experience providing therapeutic services in inpatient and outpatient settings to adults, young adults, and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties in coping with anxiety, depression, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties. I am most comfortable treating individuals with complex trauma, depression, and anxiety.

My communication style

I engage in active listening and focusing using open-ended questions, clarification, and validation. I have a calm presence and I am genuinely present and empathic leading to a safe space for you to feel vulnerable and open.

My journey to mental healthcare

I wanted to make a difference in people's lives, help others who have struggled with similar painful issues, be around people who are growing and changing, and participate in a culture that values growth and well-being. To be a witness to an individual's success in working through problems and feeling better about themselves and their lives is very rewarding and this gives me the drive and motivation to do this work.

My goals for you

I work collaboratively to identify long-term and short-term goals through exploration and identification of challenges and barriers to goals. Goal setting is focused on where the client is in stages of change. Goals are specific and attainable.

My first session with you

The first session in therapy is an opportunity for rapport building, talking about goals for therapy, and discussing expectations. There will be questions about you to understand what you are struggling with, what brought you in, how you cope, and present symptoms. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your expectations and experiences.
