My name is Sandra Martinez and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Orange County, CA. I work with young adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitional changes, relationship issues, peer-related issues, stress, and family issues. I am trained in various evidence-based models of treatment and utilize an integrative therapeutic approach to optimize the needs of the clients that I serve.
My approach
My approach varies from client to client. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-focused Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
My focus
I typically work well with young adults/older teens who are willing to explore and make changes in their life. I am able to easily build rapport with this population which makes the therapeutic relationship strong and change possible. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitional changes, relationship issues, peer-related issues, stress, and family issues.
My communication style
My communication style is very calm, empathetic, and personable, and I enjoy using humor as appropriate. I want my clients to feel comfortable and like they can be themselves when we work together.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been a mental health therapist/clinical social worker for about 8 years now. I worked in community mental health programs for about 6 years as a Bilingual Clinician and as a Clinical Supervisor. I have also worked in an emergency department conducting mental health assessments for high-acuity clients. My current full-time role is in a college where I work with young adults/adults. I love helping others and I really do consider it a passion of mine. I really enjoy building relationships with my clients and being there as support through whatever life stressors they are going through.
My goals for you
I have a collaborative approach to goal setting with clients. I work with the client to see what they would like to get out of therapy and what changes they want to make. I may also suggest goals that I feel may be helpful and will check in with the patient on a regular basis to review progress.
My first session with you
During our first session together I will complete a biopsychosocial assessment where I will ask you many questions to get to know you and what brought you to therapy. We will also review goals and what you would like to work on during your treatment.
