My name is Priscilla Gomez, LCSW. I am versed in the fields of anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma and the effects they have on the mind, body, and spirit. I ground my work in faith, a client-center approach, and help clients move into healing through healthier choices.
My approach
I am trained in Restoration Theory, which supports clients move from a place of pain to a place of peace. I utilize mindfulness exercises to help stay present at the moment and navigate the emotional pain from the past and bring light to the healing process unfolding. I believe in the power of understanding our unhealthy patterns by evaluating our thought process through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to empower behavioral change in our lives. I also welcome faith into our sessions and allow clients to navigate how their faith journey has played a role in their healing process if they are ready to bring this into their sessions.
My focus
I typically work with clients high-motivated in their healing journey. Struggling with stress, anxiety, and/or depression as a result of past or current trauma experiences. Most of my clients age range 18-40, women, and mostly Latina (but not exclusively).
My communication style
Therapy sessions with me feel very conversational. I provide a safe space for clients to unpack the areas of their life they are ready to bring healing to. I provide reflective listening and reflective questioning to help clients come to their own understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I provide psychoeducation as we move through different themes, topics, or recurrences in their lives. I make sure to check in with the client's bodily experience as we move through the session to help the client gain awareness of their present experience, and I help teach mindful technics if the client is not familiar with the practice.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist who entered this field to help others find healing from emotional wounds, but I quickly realized that with a trauma history of my own, I was having challenges in my own life to overcome some very harmful and destructive coping skills. Thankfully I found my healing journey in therapy and back in my faith where true healing and healthy identity-building took place. My faith grounds my work now, but seeing people step into their own healing is one of the greatest honors. I feel privileged to be able to alongside people during their greatest pains, and I get to be a gentle guide toward hope and healing when the current circumstances may feel bleak.
My goals for you
I review areas of concern with the client and ask for clarity on a specific measure or target the client is working towards to see growth.
My first session with you
The first session with me will feel like a conversation as I get to know you and gather some information from your past. I will ask about reasons for coming to therapy, some other experiences you may have had with therapy, and what the client believes some of the underlying issues may be contributing to the current presenting problems.
