I am an LCSW with over 25 years of experience with individuals with various challenges, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and relationship issues. I also counsel clients who are LGBTQIA+, have MS, or are experiencing parenting issues, infertility, postpartum depression, and substance abuse issues. I have worked for the County of San Diego in their adoption unit, and I have worked for the military at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in their child and adolescent center, counseling children and their families. I have also counseled military personnel and their dependents at Miramar Naval Air Station in the OB/Gyn unit. In addition, I was employed by Jewish Family Service and Psychiatric Centers in San Diego, counseling adults and children.
My approach
My training and skills are in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based therapy, and Client-centered. I feel the relationship with your counselor is paramount, and I want you to feel safe. I understand people are struggling, and it takes a great deal of courage to ask for help. I will meet you where you are and help you through your journey.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals and couples. My clients often have substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, relationship issues, parenting issues, infertility and postpartum depression. I work with clients to build skills, feel better about themselves and improve their lifestyle while decreasing suffering.
My communication style
I am an active participant in therapy as I give my clients tools they can use to respond differently. I am caring, concerned, open-minded and I listen without judgment as I want my clients to feel free to talk about anything.
My journey to mental healthcare
I enjoy helping people find solutions to their difficulties, and I am genuinely excited to see people improve and make changes in their life. Even as a teen, I found my friends would seek me out, and I helped them with some of their issues.
My goals for you
Progress for my clients will include a more stable mood, positive changes in their life, more positive relationships, self-care, and techniques they use to better solve their problems. My clients will often use mindfulness and other tools to help them respond to their stress differently. We will work together to reach your goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
The first session is geared toward discovering more about the client and their needs. I like to listen to what brings them to therapy at this time, and then I ask many clarifying questions to help determine a treatment plan. This session is also about building a connection and becoming aware of how we can move forward together.
