Hello! My name is Kristi Mills and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been providing services to clients for over 20 years and have found it all starts with building a solid connection with my clients. I view my role as helping you identify your strengths and barriers to becoming the best version of yourself and giving you the tools to continue to make progress in those areas. We never stop growing and learning!
My approach
I consider myself an eclectic or generalist therapist in that I will gauge what treatment approaches will be most effective for you based on what our goals are. I rely heavily on CBT, Mindfulness, and Compassion based therapy but weave in approaches to support Body, Mind, and Spirit as needed.
My focus
My career has been exclusively with adults and I have worked with all ranges of mental disorders. I most commonly treat mood disorders and all forms of addictions. I am also very comfortable with grief work and parenting as those have been key areas of my personal life and growth.
My communication style
I seek to create comfortable, conversational communication with clients where you feel you are being heard and seen. I am fairly non-directive as I believe we all the have ability to develop our own answers to questions with some prompting and gentle guidance.
My journey to mental healthcare
I went back to school to study social work in my 30s when I determined that the career I built in business and marketing was not well suited to my personality. I enjoy teaching others the value of being kinder to themselves as it then translates to kinder adults, families, and communities.
My goals for you
We will set initial goals fairly early on in the process based on what changes you would like to see in your life. However, goals can change and emerge at any point so my focus is on flexibility and adapting to current situations
My first session with you
In your first session, we will try to get to know each other a bit and determine if we have the potential to work well together. I will ask several questions to get a sense of how things are going for you currently but will also tell you a little more about myself and my approach to working together.
