Hello, my name is Victor Alcantar, LMFT, and I have over 21 years of experience as a mental health professional. I hold an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy and I am fluent in both English and Spanish.
My approach
My favorite treatment modalities consist of cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and motivational interviewing to facilitate the desired changes in your life and help you achieve your treatment objectives. I take a client-centered, strength-based approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic models including DBT, object relations, Gestalt therapy, and more.
My focus
I work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with a wide range of mental health issues. My specialties include addiction, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and more. I also have experience working with older adults and providing marital/pre-marital counseling.
My communication style
I believe in forming a strong therapeutic relationship built on open communication and trust. My style is supportive and collaborative. I take cultural as well as religious/spiritual sensitivity into account to meet you where you are.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to the mental health field over 21 years ago out of a deep desire to help others improve their well-being and relationships. My extensive experience has solidified my belief that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are not only essential to our own mental health but form the foundation of healthy connections with others.
My goals for you
My goal is to empower you with the skills and self-understanding to make meaningful, lasting changes. Whether you are struggling with a mental health disorder, substance use issues, or challenges in your relationships and life, I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to heal, grow, and move forward.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will discuss what is bringing you to therapy and collaborate to establish your unique treatment goals. I will gather some background information and begin getting to know you as a whole person. Most importantly, we will start building the trust and rapport that will serve as the bedrock of our work together.
