I entered the clinical field working with individuals with severe mental illness. Through my education and experience, I have learned that I identify as a CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) oriented therapist with a wide range of intervention techniques from DBT to Solution Focused to support my clients in working from where they are at.
My approach
I work from a CBT approach, how our thoughts influence our behaviors and vice versa. I have training in DBT, Trauma Focused, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-focused so I can pull tools that may better support my clients in reaching their goals.
My focus
I have extensive experience working with teens to adults in transitional phases of life. Such as school changes, work changes, and relationship changes. The anxiety and fear that such changes can induce are something I enjoy supporting my clients in working through, including finding the root which may be years back.
My communication style
I am active in the treatment process with my clients. I work with my clients to practice skills, explore events, and actively engage throughout the treatment process with my clients. I am an active listener and have no hesitation in asking a client for clarification or intent to understand the meaning of what is being discussed.
My journey to mental healthcare
Like many teenagers, I was not perfect. I got connected to mental health services and had someone in my teens who made a significant impact. This experience led me to a path of supporting others that are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or bipolar disorder.
My goals for you
Progress can be measured by minute intervals. Such as a client who has been depressed and hasn't left the house in weeks, success may be sitting on the front porch for 5 minutes. Success does not have to be all or nothing and recognizing every small accomplishment can boost mood and motivation.
My first session with you
The first session is where we get to know each other. For me to share my orientation style and for the client to share about who they are, where they come from, and what brought them to treatment. We might identify our goals in the first session but also in the second.
