Alejandra Landavazo, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. My approach to therapy is a collaborative one. I see clients as the agents of change in their own lives and take a supportive role in developing and formulating a vision of where clients see themselves.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy and support to clients is an eclectic one. I recognize that therapy is not a 'one size fits all', and therefore try to utilize various supports from various modalities and theoretical approaches. The most common approaches I am comfortable utilizing range from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Behavioral Therapy, to Polyvagal Therapy & Internal Family Systems therapy. I collaborate with clients in developing and establishing goals and understand that plans might fail but people don't, empathy and compassion are the main themes I bring out in the session, and support clients in learning these skills.
My focus
I enjoy working with adult women, particularly from Hispanic or Latinx communities that are affected by conditions including generational trauma and first-generation immigration. Some of the conditions I am most comfortable treating include anxiety, depression, trauma-induced conditions, and stressors related to work, relationships, or family. I enjoy empowering clients in developing self-advocacy skills.
My communication style
My communication style is calm and engaging. I invite clients into an atmosphere of calmness and safety where they feel understood and accepted no matter what is shared in the therapy room. I engage in non-judgmental listening and provide empathic communication during interactions with clients.
My goals for you
I like to collaborate with clients in determining motives for initiating therapy. I like to support clients in developing and formulating short-term and long-term goals during our work together. I initiate goal discussion at intake and expand during future therapy sessions to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
My first session with you
Invitation to share the reason for seeking therapy, responding to questions regarding client preferences, and how are they currently managing identified needs. I will ask a variety of questions to better understand what the client is needing and respond to any pertaining questions clients may have regarding my level of expertise or specialties.
