My name is Patricia "Trish" Daruwala. I have been working in the mental health field since 2006 and have held a Clinical Counseling license since 2013. My approach in therapy is to work with my clients to develop goals to manage current stressors and learn skills to successfully manage any future stress.
My approach
Asking for help is rarely an easy decision and my goal is to develop a space where you feel comfortable enough to work on your goals. My approach is to be genuine, warm, positive, and we may laugh a bit. I enjoy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to assist people in learning new skills to manage their past, present, and future. Both of these approaches are based on the idea that people are not broken and can learn skills to manage their thoughts and emotions.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals from all walks of life. I have a special interest in helping my clients learn skills to manage sleep issues, anxiety, ADHD, depression, Borderline personality, substance abuse, and to manage experiences with trauma.
My communication style
It is important to me to develop a non-judgmental environment where clients feel accepted and worthy of care.
My journey to mental healthcare
I began this path in 2006 working as a parenting coach for a social service agency that provided support to parents and children involved in the child welfare system. I continued in this area for eleven years and during this time, earned my Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling and began working as both an individual and family counselor. My next move was working as a clinical supervisor in residential inpatient and then outpatient treatment for substance use. Both of these areas taught me so much about working with individuals who are struggling with different stressors. Throughout the years I have spent working with people, I continue to enjoy getting to know my clients, providing them with unconditional acceptance, and watching them manage the different obstacles life throws at them.
My goals for you
I find the easiest way to develop goals is to work together to understand the problem, identify specific areas to work on, and provide my clients with some different options to try. It is essential for my client to be actively involved in setting goals as well as updating them as we move forward.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will talk about what has brought the individual into therapy, begin developing a history, and identify what is most important for my client to work on. Our first session is also an opportunity for my client to determine if we might be a good fit, which I believe is important for successful therapy.
