I’m Shanna Rayyan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist who is passionate about helping my clients work through their traumas, hardships, and mental illness in order to improve their quality of life. I use an eclectic approach, implementing various evidence-based therapeutic modalities that best fit my specific client’s life story, needs, and goals.
My approach
I utilize various therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Family Therapy.
My focus
I have experience working with people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly survivors of domestic and sexual violence, LGBTQ/queer populations, and family therapy, including foster and adoptive families. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, mood, and eating disorders, body image issues, OCD, PTSD, and grief/adjustment disorders.
My communication style
I consider myself an approachable, down-to-earth person who provides a judgment-free and safe environment. I use my authenticity, humor, and unconditional positive regard for the humanity of my client to guide our work together creating trust, safety, and hope.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because I wanted to be there for people going through life stresses and challenges their toughest moments. My motivation comes from dealing with my own experiences with trauma, obstacles, and mental struggles, and the desire to use that understanding to help people through the hardest time of their life as someone who has been there too. I want my clients to know that they are not alone, that I care about them, that they are understood, heard, seen, and treated with the care they deserve. I am a healer who is driven to connect with and be there for people, to uplift and empower them to thrive and have hope for a better future.
My goals for you
Goal setting with my clients is a collaborative, client-led process. I spend time learning my client’s fundamental values, ethics, goals, and strengths, incorporating them to help facilitate sustainable life changes and work through improving trauma, relationship issues and reducing symptoms/behaviors.
My first session with you
During my first session with a client, I like to spend time really listening and understanding my client’s life story and assessing their needs, strengths, and areas they want to see the most life change. Toward the end of the first session, we collaboratively set goals for treatment.
