I am David Johnson, a licensed therapist in California with over 25 years of experience. Throughout my career, I have practiced various modalities to cater to the unique needs and challenges of my diverse clientele.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is eclectic and individualized, drawing from a wide range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Gestalt, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based interventions. I adapt my style to best support each client's specific goals and circumstances.
My focus
I work with individuals and couples across the lifespan, specializing in areas such as addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship issues. I have extensive experience supporting LGBTQIA+ clients and older adults.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, empathetic, and direct. I create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to openly explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I actively listen and provide honest, compassionate feedback to facilitate insight and growth.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to mental healthcare was inspired by a genuine desire to help others face their fears and embrace positive change. As a certified polygraph examiner for a decade, I gained a deep understanding of denial, secrets, and their impact—insights I bring into the therapeutic relationship to support my clients' healing.
My goals for you
My goal is to empower you with the self-awareness, coping skills, and resilience to navigate life's challenges and thrive. I will encourage you to believe in your strengths, push beyond your comfort zone when needed, and see each hurdle as an opportunity for transformation. Together, we will chart a course towards greater wellbeing and fulfillment.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and collaborate to define your treatment goals. I will gather relevant background information and begin to establish a warm, trusting rapport as the foundation of our work together. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, voice any concerns, and determine if we are a good therapeutic fit.
