My name is Krista Gerdts and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) based in Santa Monica, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and life transitions. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered, and Narrative Therapy to help my clients navigate the more difficult parts of life and live the lives they’ve always wanted.
My approach
I believe in the transformative power of a safe space. My approach is to offer a collaborative environment that allows you to develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of you, your thoughts, and emotions. My approach typically utilizes a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered, and Narrative Therapy while taking your specific needs into account.
My focus
My therapeutic approach works best for adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar, self-esteem, life transitions, relationship struggles, coping skills, panic attacks, and sleep. I support you along your path in finding the skills, confidence, and inspiration to manage life’s greatest challenges.
My communication style
My communication style is accepting, empathetic, and inquisitive. I create an environment that seeks to understand your story and the thoughts and emotions experienced along with it. Working with me feels like having a supportive and engaging confidant.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always sought to understand the human condition and the ways our thoughts and emotions impact our life story. I began my journey 5 years ago working with adults and adolescents in Residential and PHP/IOP treatment centers. These experiences solidified my lifelong passion for creating meaningful therapeutic connections. I find great fulfillment and enthusiasm in helping clients achieve the lives they have always wanted.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative in seeking to define what you hope to achieve in therapy. From there, we work together to create a list of short-term and long-term goals that leave you feeling hopeful and motivated.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is an exploration of what initially brought you to therapy. The first session is more about building a connection and seeking to understand the way you have been feeling. This is an opportunity to share what you hope to get out of therapy and for me to answer any questions you have. We can then decide the best course of action to fit your needs.
