Hello my name is Meghan Giles, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I am passionate about working collaboratively with individuals to help empower them to create lasting change. I have worked with adults, teens, and children that are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and communication difficulties.
My approach
We will work collaboratively to meet your goals. I typically like to use client-centered approach as each individual moves through therapy at a different pace. I like to utilize techniques and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, Humanistic, and Trauma Informed practices. With children, I typically use art and play interventions.
My focus
For the past 6 years, I have treated children from 5-12 years of age in the school setting and virtually during COVID. Additionally, I have treated adolescents struggling with stress, anxiety, and depression. I have also supported teachers dealing with stress from the profession and other life stressors. I have a passion for working with those experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, pregnancy, and postpartum.
My communication style
I believe I create a relaxed environment that’s nonjudgemental and empathetic.
My journey to mental healthcare
Before this career, I was a teacher. During that time I saw many children struggle socially and emotionally and need more support in these areas. I also struggled with anxiety about being a teacher and all that it entails. I love connecting with children and adults and being someone they can turn to for support.
My goals for you
We will work collaboratively to set small goals that can be accomplished in order to get you closer to your long-term goals.
My first session with you
During the first session, I like to hear your story: what brings you to therapy, what have your past experiences been like, what are you looking to get out of therapy, and more. By the end of the first session, I hope that you begin to feel the therapeutic alliance developing.
