My name is Mallory Montague (LMFT 113759) and I received my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California in 2014. I integrate multiple modalities to focus on a variety of areas including anxiety, adjustment and life transitions, parenting, coping skills, self-esteem, and more. I enjoy building an empathic connection with clients in order to provide a safe and comfortable place to explore goals, build strengths and cultivate genuine growth.
My approach
I use a mixture of evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Attachment-Based models, and psychoeducation. I like taking research-supported interventions and making them fit the needs of my clients.
My focus
Since transitioning to Telehealth in the last 3 years, I have primarily focused on anxiety and related conditions. I have a passion for working with people who are going through life transitions and seeking out support for their own personal growth. Some of my specialties include coping skills, parenting issues, self-esteem, adjustment, and anxiety. I have experience working in Telehealth, Community Based, and School settings.
My communication style
Building a supportive and comfortable environment is vital to success in therapy, so I try to build an empathic and nurturing relationship. It's important that clients feel supported throughout therapy, which is felt even when I have to challenge and lean into discomfort. I communicate directly and with encouragement and care.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist was not a linear one, but one thing remained consistent: I love the humbling experience of witnessing life's triumphs and challenges through my client's eyes. I am constantly motivated by the vulnerable courage individuals have when they seek out therapy, and I take great care with the responsibility to be a small part of their journey.
My goals for you
I like to have a collaborative approach to setting goals. I want to know what the client wants to focus on in therapy, as well as suggest possible supportive goals that align with the client's growth.
My first session with you
During the first session, I give clients a general layout of what to expect in therapy to encourage transparency and build rapport. Additionally, I want to learn about why a client is seeking services and what they hope to get out of the experience, to make sure that we are a good fit. Showing up to that first session can be intimidating, but the actual session shouldn't be!
