Hi there, I'm Richard!

I am a California-licensed marriage and family therapist. I use straightforward evidence-based practices to reduce areas of emotional and psychological distress. I ensure all my clients feel heard, understood, and respected. My goal is to collaborate and help you heal and thrive for years to come.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families who are motivated to create positive change, seeking insight and solutions to resolve dysfunction in many domains of their lives.

My approach

My approach to therapy utilizes Humanistic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Trauma Focused, Solution Focused, Contextual Family Therapy, Bowenian Family Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Gottman Therapy.

My communication style

I believe in honesty, transparency, respect, and assertive communication. I have a "no-secrets" policy for couples. I do not allow yelling and/or arguing in session. Note that there are limits to communication. For example, any communication that involves knowledge of child and elder abuse will have to be reported to local authorities.

Setting goals is an ongoing collaborative conversation between the Client and me. I used the SMART Goal model (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely).

Our first session

Expect a warm welcome and an organic conversation that fosters empathy, respect, and understanding. We will complete some paperwork (biopsychosocial) and complete some surveys so I can better understand the severity of the presenting problem.
