Hi there, I'm Kymberly!

My name is Kym Lundberg, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I help anxious and overwhelmed people feel more calm and confident. Together we can work on what would feel most helpful, which might include building self-worth, healthy coping skills, lifestyle changes, relationship and communication skills, and personalized ways to manage stress and life's ups and downs.

My approach

I have a person-centered, holistic orientation. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, expressive arts, attachment theory, family systems, and trauma-informed practices into therapy. Within the safety of the therapeutic space and relationship, I meet you were you are in this moment and tailor my approach to your needs and interests.

My focus

I particularly connect with clients who are creative, who struggle with their inner critical voice, and who sometimes (or often) get lost on their way to creating the life they want. Some of the challenges my clients seek help for are dealing difficult life transitions, anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, identity issues, and grief, among others. My previous background in education and art has been useful at times if my clients are navigating challenges as students or in working in the creative world.

My communication style

I have a warm, thoughtful and personal style. Creating a space that feels safe and comfortable is my priority because this is so important when exploring and working through challenges to have trust in the therapeutic relationship. I tailor my approach to the needs and interests of my clients. I hold space for those painful moments and walk with people through the dark. At other times, we may bring in humor because laughter can be healing in itself. Past clients have often shared that they felt comfortable and safe opening up about things that they had not spoken about before and that they felt understood and not judged.

My journey to mental healthcare

I grew up in California in a blended, multicultural, and multilingual family, which has been a source of strength and learning as well as giving me perspective. Personally and professionally, I've navigated my own highs and lows and those of my family and communities. There have been times of grief and loss, medical challenges, learning differences and life transitions. I have had times of walking alone and I have been fortunate to have had the help of some wonderful people in my life. I know how much a difference it can make to have a caring person to talk with and to feel supported. I started out in art and education before I shifted to focus more directly on mental health. I recognized my calling while teaching students who I saw really needed a different kind of support than I could offer as a teacher, and that I was more drawn to therapeutic work. I have worked for over 15 years with youth, adults and families in various multicultural settings, often based in education, with the last 9 years focused more in mental health. I'm passionate about helping people create lives they enjoy. I feel honored to walk with my clients and be present with them on their journey.

My goals for you

I collaborate with clients to develop goals that make sense for them and what they are looking for help with. These are personal and we work together to identify what is most important at the time and adjust if needed.

My first session with you

The first session is a balance of getting to know each other and how I can support you, which includes providing information about what to expect from therapy and me, answering your questions, and gathering assessment information that helps me help you. The main focus of the first session is starting to get to know you, your story, and what brings you to therapy while you start to get a sense of me and how I work. We're also paying attention to if it feels like a good fit.
