Hello! My name is Maureen Tyra, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Los Angeles, California. I see clients throughout the state via telehealth. I work with adults of all ages and specialize in anxiety, stress, depression, and life transitions using a variety of modalities.
My approach
I want to get to know you and come to a mutual understanding of your goals for engaging in therapy. From there I will use a variety of approaches that fit best. Often this is a combination of Client-Centered, Strength-Based, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. There is no one approach, just like there is no one answer to how to make progress and start feeling better. Our work together will focus on what is important to you, and how your unique strengths and perspective can form the basis for developing skills and coping mechanisms to handle the challenges and transitions of life.
My focus
I work with adults of all ages who are experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression as they work to adjust to a new life situation. This may include starting or ending school or a job, entering a new relationship or wanting to improve an old one, finding yourself in a new phase of life or facing an unexpected curveball, or simply desiring more satisfaction and fulfillment as you live each day.
My communication style
My communication style is informal, warm, and direct. I create a safe and accepting space so that my clients can feel comfortable talking with me about anything. I listen with empathy and without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been fascinated by the variety of people. And curious about how we grow, develop, and change. What makes each of us our own person? Why do we get along well with some and not others? There are so many ways to be creative, successful, or fulfilled. I get satisfaction in helping others to develop insight into themselves, and then use that information to engage fully and successfully with the world.
My goals for you
We will work together to identify your goals, understand how you operate, and define clear next steps every time we meet. I will help you explore life experiences, and will gently challenge you to be open to new ways of thinking and coping, in order to develop resilience for the ups and downs of life's journey.
My first session with you
At our first meeting, we will spend most of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently. I’ll ask questions to better understand your world and why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Everyone is unique, and I like to listen and understand in order to know what will work best for you moving forward.
