I love what I do. I became a therapist later in my life after a career in another field. I wanted work filled with purpose and meaning that benefitted me and others. I value therapy that fosters compassion, kindness, honesty, curiosity, learning, struggle, and change. I see myself as an ally in your effort to create the life you want.
My approach
In my approach to therapy, I offer acceptance, understanding, education, and skills to change those things that can be changed and to reduce the suffering of those who can't. I utilize modalities including Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Compassion Focused, Narrative, Person-Centered, Solution Focused, Trauma Focused, and Strength-Based techniques.
My focus
I work with individuals, focusing on those who struggle with the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety, loneliness, and troubled relationships with themselves and others. My specialties include treating Anxiety, Coping Skills, Depression, Men's Issues, and Trauma and PTSD.
My communication style
I communicate with compassion, honesty, and clarity. My style balances understanding and acceptance with gentle directness in exploring your struggles. I ask thoughtful questions and offer insights to help you gain new perspectives. Through our dialogue, I aim to be your supportive ally on the journey of positive change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist later in life, transitioning from another career field. I was motivated by a desire to engage in work that was filled with purpose and meaning - work that would benefit both myself and others. I earned my Master of Arts (MA) degree in counseling from the University of San Francisco between August 1994 and August 1996.
My goals for you
If you work with me, my goal is to be your ally and support you in creating the life you want to lead. I aim to provide understanding and tools to help you change what can be changed and find relief from suffering over things that cannot be changed.
