Greetings! My name is Margarita Abramov. I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Sofia University, Palo Alto, California, with a specialization in Creative Expressions. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of California as well as a Registered Nurse. I am also a licensed psychologist in the state of North Carolina.
My approach
Two major theories-psychodynamic and humanistic-have had a major impact on my clinical thinking and my clinical work. My therapeutic approach centers on discovering innovative solutions to the challenges you encounter. Throughout therapy, we will concentrate on mental fitness and how to harness its power to transform problematic thoughts and emotions. To help you achieve your therapeutic goals I utilize various therapeutic techniques, such as acceptance and commitment therapy, humanistic therapy, mindfulness and guided imagery, hypnotherapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. My priority is a holistic approach to the treatment of disorders, with an emphasis on wellness over pathology.
My focus
I have found that my therapeutic style and approach are suitable for adults who feel trapped in unfortunate life circumstances but are motivated to improve their quality of life. I typically work with adult clients who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depressed mood, and PTSD, going through life changes, and have existential and spiritual concerns.
My communication style
My communication style is personable, compassionate, reflective, transparent, and clear, based on respect. My goal is to listen to what you have to say and to help you make sense of it. I strive to create a comfortable atmosphere of acceptance, trust, and safety where you can freely express your feelings, gain new perspectives, and feel heard and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been captivated by the power of mind, wisdom of the body, and the human’s potential to change since I was very young. I became a therapist through my own long journey of struggle and healing. To me, therapy means to take care of, to remediate, to heal encountered problems and limitations. Although we all deal with challenges in our unique way, defined by our peculiar nature, I believe that a healing journey to wholeness begins with a desire to understand yourself, your aspirations, your perceptions, and actions. Therapy can offer you this opportunity.
My goals for you
Very often, we miss noticing that problems or crises provide new opportunities for growth and progress. Developing goals of treatment and working as a team, we can find the right path that will help you reconnect with your values, tap into your aspirations, and resolve inner conflicts. My task is to help you to reach the goals and find the solutions to the issues you face so that you feel more in control over the situation.
My first session with you
I believe that each individual has its own unique world. In the first session, I am interviewing you and you are interviewing me. It is important that you feel comfortable and can trust the therapist you are planning to work with. Trust is a catalyst of changes in therapy. I strive to create a comfortable atmosphere of acceptance, trust and safety where you can feel free to express your feelings, gain new perspectives, and look confidently into your future.
