Hey there! My name is Anisha Holden, and I am a Licensed Marriage and family therapist. I enjoy working with children/teens, adults, couples, and families who are interested in working with differing backgrounds/cultures.
My approach
When working with clients it is preferable to create a collaborative relationship, that allows clients to remain the experts over their own experiences and for me to simply provide assistance in resolving difficulties/issues presented as we navigate the path. I use an integrative style, that allows for use of multiple theories or models, tailored to benefit each unique client.
My focus
Often, clients that are in the process of transitioning to a new stage in life are attracted to working with me. Whether it is becoming a spouse or parent, moving into a new position, graduating, or just simply changing from one state of being to another, my aim is to provide the necessary support to do so successfully. With any change, comes anxiety, depression, indecision, and so on. My job is to help you clear the path.
My communication style
In line with creating a collaborative environment, typically I keep an informative yet conversational tone with clients. There are times when a more directive, gently "authoritative" voice/stance is required within our work and if it is complementary to their needs.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became attracted to Psychology and counseling my senior year of high school following participation in an AP psych class. Initially, I saw it as a supplemental major as the intention in college was to become a Speech Pathologist/Audiologist, which shifted after I graduated with only my B.A in Psychology. I always had a clear drive to help people and once I realized that it was possible to do that as a therapist, I decided to enroll in grad school to pursue the path. There is no greater pleasure than help someone navigate themselves.
My goals for you
Goal formulation comes from not only direct conversation with the client but also via the assessments and paperwork completed. Together, Therapist and Client will review the information to determine what is to be accomplished based on the needs/wants of the client.
My first session with you
Clients should expect a therapist that is highly interested in knowing them. Clients are more than just their presenting problems, especially because said issues impact the whole person and their entire lives. This first session is to lay the foundation for rapport and get a clear goal for treatment through comfortable conversation. Clients are initiated into the collaborative process of their treatment.
