Hi there, I'm Shelby Singer. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who strongly believes in the power of connection. To that end, I am passionate about creating a nurturing, open, and trusting relationship in order for therapy to be successful. My hope is to help you build upon your own strengths and abilities in order to live a life more authentically and with a greater sense of self-compassion.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is using an integrated and person-centered approach that includes cognitive modalities, solution-focused therapy, family systems, and mindfulness techniques. I am also trauma-informed and believe that early life experiences often shape the way we understand ourselves and others (psychodynamic therapy). Because everyone is unique, I always try to tailor my work to fit each individual that I have the opportunity to work with.
My focus
Over the past two decades, I have worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress. I also help clients adjust to major life changes, family-of-origin issues, and self-esteem development. My passion is working with maternal mental wellness; specifically women experiencing infertility, postpartum depression/anxiety, and challenges and changes in identity associated with becoming a parent.
My communication style
I recognize that taking the step to begin therapy can often seem difficult and overwhelming. To that end, I do my best to create a safe and supportive environment where you can express your feelings freely and without fear of judgment. I bring compassion, warmth, and trust to each individual that I work with.
My goals for you
As your therapist, I will help you to create frameworks for measuring progress and achieving your desired outcome/s. I will assist you by offering meaningful feedback and support in order to live a healthier, happier, and more balanced life. I aim to work collaboratively with you and assist you on a path toward personal growth and positive change.
My first session with you
During our first session, my priority is to provide you with a space to feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. I will then start to begin the therapeutic alliance and see if we are a good fit. I will invite you to share your story in order to feel understood and validated.
