My name is Cheyenne Smith. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Orange County, CA area and I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I operate from client client-centered, strength-based, and culturally informed therapeutic approach. I believe in assisting in increasing understanding of yourself through exploring values, identifying maladaptive thought patterns, and working together to increase awareness, wholeness, and mental well-being In other words I work with clients in developing self-actualization in order to support clients to live their best life and be their best self. I enjoy working with my clients through life transitions such as parenthood, adulting, college, and with relationships. I specialize in working with Depression, Anxiety, and Postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is a bit eccentric. I often combine humanistic, person-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral-based therapy approaches to support clients in meeting their therapy goals. I love to adjust therapy to my client's needs and uniqueness. I welcome clients to teach me about themselves and the way they have been experiencing the world.
My focus
I often work with transitional-aged youth (16-26) and adults in navigating life transitions. I am comfortable treating a variety of conditions and often work with Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma, as well as Pregnancy, Prenatal, and Postpartum mental health. I enjoy helping support clients with relationship issues, family/generational challenges, navigating anger, and building self-esteem.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, personable, accommodating, and collaborative. I embrace the uniqueness of each of my clients and provide a nonjudgmental and safe space where clients can show up unapologetically themselves in each session and provide space for clients to process openly without filtering. I try to keep the therapy room comfy and casual in tone and also introduce psychoeducation to help create positive and informed change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have a passion for serving and assisting others through difficult or confusing times. In college, I received life-changing mentorship, empowerment, and support and I immediately changed my path to put myself in a position to pay that forward through studying psychology, sociology, and cultural studies. I became a therapist to help people and have remained a therapist because mental health help and education are so necessary for the wellness of individuals and the world we all live in.
My goals for you
I take a collaborative approach to goal setting with clients. I support clients in identifying what feels most meaningful and impactful to them at the time. Throughout our time together we check in on our goals and progress in order to ensure we are on track and adjust our path if necessary
My first session with you
In our first session, I like to focus on building our therapeutic alliance and rapport by getting to know my client deeper. Clients can expect us to explore what is bringing them to therapy as well as explore relevant history. I will ask questions to better begin to understand who you are, what you are feeling, and how I can assist you at this time. We will work together to figure out the first steps on your path through therapy and will continue to check to make sure we are heading in the direction that feels right for you.
