I'm Leah Krinsky Atkins, licensed MFT #81396. My ultimate goal in my therapy work is to help my clients believe in themselves as much as I believe in them. I work with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and countless life issues.
My approach
While I am deeply humanistic, I also frequently employ elements from CBT and DBT. My work is informed by Object Relations theory, in which the therapist provides the client with empathy and attunement.
My focus
I work mostly with adults and couples. Most often, my individual clients are struggling with depression and/or anxiety, which is sometimes clinical but sometimes situational. I work with couples who need help learning how to communicate with authenticity and emotional truth.
My communication style
The phrase my clients say to me most often is, "That's a good question." I create an atmosphere of acceptance, collaboration, and lively inquiry.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always enjoyed hearing people's stories. I'm driven by the growth I see in my clients. It's inspiring to see that humans never stop striving to change for the better.
My goals for you
In my first session with a new client, I ascertain what they would like to work on and how they would like to work on it. We work on a time frame and how to measure their progress.
My first session with you
Clients should expect to feel relieved. It's a long journey before finally asking for help. They should expect validation and some gentle challenges to their preconceived notions about themselves.
