My name is Spring Peabody and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in both Los Angeles, CA and Hawai'i. I work with clients throughout both states via telehealth. I work with adults with a focus on gerontology, aging, chronic illness, as well as, women's health and perinatal mental health. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions, parenthood issues, and women's issues using a variety of models including cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, solutions-focused, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-driven and varies based on each person's individual goals and needs. I often use cognitive behavioral strategies along with various strategies from acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and solutions-focused techniques, as well as some coping tools from EMDR. There are many wonderful tools out there from various modalities and I draw from a wide pool of them and work with clients to find the ones that suit them best.
My focus
I have over a decade of experience working with older adults and those dealing with chronic or terminal illnesses. I also have experience working with women dealing with perinatal mental health needs and the life transitions that come along with parenthood.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, welcoming, and accepting. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can feel heard, seen, and comfortable sharing whatever is on their mind. Where we can work together to explore their current concerns, goals, values, and desires in life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a licensed clinical social worker/therapist because I wanted to make a difference and I wanted to understand family dynamics, systemic racism, roles, and expectations, and the many complex layers of humanity. I don't have all the answers, but I do love my work. I feel my education and experience have helped me both personally and professionally. I feel honored when I am allowed the privilege to walk alongside others in their journey of growth and discovery.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as client-centered and driven. You are the driver in these sessions, we will work together to explore your goals for our time together and these goals are allowed to evolve and change over time.
My first session with you
A first session would be about exploring what brought you to seek out therapy at this time, how you're currently feeling, how long you've been feeling this way, and exploring other somatic symptoms you may be experiencing. Along with gathering a bit about your history and support systems. It would also be about establishing a rapport with each other and creating a space where you feel at ease and comfortable.
