Hello, my name is Alejandra Guerrero and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I work with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, emotion regulation, and stress, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus Brief-Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing skills and interventions. I am based in Bakersfield, California, and work with clients via telehealth statewide.
My approach
My approach is eclectic, client-centered, and strength-based. I tend to lean on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focus Brief-Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing skills and interventions.
My focus
I am passionate about creating a safe therapeutic space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) clients. I have experience working with adolescents and adults who need to build social skills, improve self-esteem, and or experience life stress or hardships. Clients with conditions that include anxiety, depression, anger, or grief.
My communication style
My communication style is engaging, personable, and sincere. I use humor for comfort and cheer which may also help clients be more comfortable and open during sessions. I am direct at times to ensure I am understanding the client and to provide reflection for further processing.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a first-generation college graduate and proud daughter of an immigrant farmworker. My experience of overcoming adversity has drawn me to the helping profession. I advocate for individuals to improve their emotional and mental health which will help strengthen the quality of their lives. I'm proud of you for taking the first step and prioritizing your mental wellness. Whatever the reason that led you to therapy today, may you find the hope, support, and guidance to continue your journey in this world.
My goals for you
My approach towards goal setting is allowing clients to share their needs for seeking therapy. From there, we work collaboratively to identify objectives and goals for therapy. Then monitoring their progress.
My first session with you
During the first session, clients should expect me to discuss and review confidentiality and limitations as this is a fundamental part of building trust. I will be asking questions to get to know you and your area of need to start considering modalities or approaches. I will provide a safe space for clients to be heard, along with providing validation and empathy.
