Life can be rough at times...throwing you all types of curveballs which can cause increased symptoms of anxiety, depression and anger while adding score to your tally of traumatic experiences. As horrible as those curveballs are at zapping away your joy they do not deserve a space long enough in your life to pilot it. YOU have the power to take control of your life and I will be there with you every step of the way. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is committed to supporting growth in clients. I am also a Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS-II) and Certified Mindfulness Informed Practitioner. I am also a Clinical Trauma Informed Professional. My ultimate goal is to assist you with attaining and maintaining stability in your life so you can learn to live an authentic, peaceful and productive life.
My approach
My approach to therapy is eclectic as eclectic therapy allows me to draw from different theoretical orientations within sessions to support meeting the individual needs of the client. I am also trained in Trauma-Informed, Grief, Synergetic Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Aggression Replacement Therapy. I have much experience with using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused modalities in treatment.
My focus
I have earned much of my experience working as a therapist with disadvantaged and at-risk youth. However, I do have some experience with working with clients in early adulthood. I am comfortable with treating clients from diverse populations.
My communication style
I use a humorous, empathetic, and assertive approach in my sessions to foster a strong alliance with clients. I am very straightforward. I feel I create a relaxed space for clients to feel comfortable expressing their feelings. I feel my clients often feel understood as I try to show compassion in sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
My past attracted me to a career as a therapist. I feel that I have experienced some of the same struggles I plan to support clients with working through. The motivation to support someone in making positive changes in life is what drives my work as a therapist.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by identifying what they would like to change for themselves and then supporting them by prioritizing the goals from greatest to least.
My first session with you
Clients should expect me to ask questions pertaining to their lifestyle, history, background, symptoms, and how they cope. I utilize the first session to interview the client to assess for the client's needs. I also inquire about the client's expectations of counseling.
