My name is Kathleen (Kit) Smith, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Fairfield, CA. I see clients both in person and via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders, although my work is not limited to just those issues.
My approach
My approach to therapy depends on the needs of my clients, and we identify treatment goals collaboratively. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based therapy, and solution focused therapy most frequently. I am also trained in EMDR and clinical hypnosis, which can be very helpful for a variety of problems. I am not a Christian counselor, but am open to including clients' spiritual beliefs in their treatment.
My focus
I work with adults, from young adults to seniors. My style and skills match well with clients who have depression and/or anxiety disorders, including OCD and PTSD. However, I enjoy working with other issues as well, such as life transitions, grief, and dealing with chronic illness.
My communication style
One of my mentors told me that good therapy should be 80% the client talking, and 20% the therapist talking, so I do tend to practice that way. I listen actively and ask questions, give feedback, and/or provide suggestions accordingly. My demeanor is calm and unassuming, and I have a good sense of humor. People find me easy to talk to.
