I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 14 years of experience working in the field of social work. Over the course of my career, I have worked with individuals who have been diagnosed with chronic illnesses, mental health including depression, anxiety, as well as with substance abuse.
My approach
My approach to therapy is meet you where you are at in your mental health journey. I help clients develop skills for insight and facilitate change within themselves, I use behavioral (CBT), psychodynamic (thoughts and feelings), and humanistic approaches (Gestalt and Client-center therapy). I am not limited to other approaches.
My focus
I welcome clients from all backgrounds and lifestyles. I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety, chronic illness, addictions, domestic violence, behavioral issues, grief, schizophrenia, bipolar, and adjustment disorder.
My communication style
I believe in connecting with clients to provide therapeutic interventions. I provide a sense of calm, comforting, non-judgmental as well as supportive presence. My communication styles in therapy are active listening, using open and closed ended questions, clarifying and exploring.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a Mexican American woman who grew up in the central valley. I have personally seen the discrimination against vulnerable populations. While growing up I wanted to see change in this. In order for me to see change I knew I wanted to part of the change. Therefore, I pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s degree in Social Work then obtaining my License in Clinical Social Work. Being part of the client’s journey has been a blessing. I love what I do and truly believe having a great support system will get you closer to your goals. I will be honored to walk with you through your journey.
My goals for you
Settling goals in therapy is important and an effective way to increase, self-esteem, motivation and help create the change you want. I will provide and demonstrate techniques, skill building, and coping skills to start with goal setting. Goal setting is a collaborative approach between the client and therapist.
My first session with you
First session will include greeting and introductions. May include small talk to build relationship. I want you be comfortable and feel supportive in making the first step to therapy. Giving you the opportunity to tell your story, reason you are seeking therapy, and the expectations of therapy.
