Hi there, I'm Catherine!

Thanks for your interest. I have 30 years of experience helping my clients with serious mental disorders and with the everyday stressors and challenges of life. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story. We will develop a plan for your treatment and work together collaboratively to achieve your goals for a better quality of life.

My focus

I work with clients who want help adjusting to changes and challenges we face in life. About 60% of my clients are working with serious mental illness. Others enter therapy for help with family problems, job stress, loss and grief, self-acceptance, processing past trauma, adjusting to physical limitations, and physical pain. Each client is unique.

My approach

I have training and experience in many treatment approaches, including client-centered and insight-oriented talk therapy, mindfulness, self-acceptance training, Gestalt therapy, Existential Psychotherapy, and behavioral approaches such as CBT and DBT. I will individualize my approach for you.

My communication style

My goal is to be warm and friendly, calm and compassionate, and create a safe, nonjudgmental space for us to explore your feelings, strengths, and challenges. I will listen for a deeper understanding of you and your situation. I will help you find your wisdom and clarify your beliefs, wants, needs, and answers. I will offer my own insights, too.

My journey to mental healthcare

I realized psychology was my thing in high school. On my way to becoming a therapist, I was a school teacher, wife, and mother. In my 30s, I went back to college and got my MSW and then LCSW in 1995. While I was building my private practice, I also worked at a number of different agencies, which also added to my education about life.

My goals for you

We will identify goals for therapy, such as improved mood, better stress management, lower anxiety, problem-solving skills, improved personal relations, self-acceptance, coping with difficult people or physical pain, or your anger. The goals can vary widely from person to person. When we have identified goals, we will develop treatment strategies.

Our first session

In the first session, you will tell me what brought you in and what your hopes are for our work together. I will ask questions to clarify your situation and identify goals. I will answer questions you may have about me or about therapy. We will get our toes in the water to begin creating a therapeutic alliance.
