My name is Kelly Gonderman and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I specialize in helping adolescents and young adults work toward being their best selves.
My approach
I approach therapy from a psychodynamic frame utilizing a combination of emotion-focused therapy, family systems, and behavioral techniques. I strive to create a safe space in each session for each individual to know themselves more deeply and understand how their early life experiences have impacted their current way of interacting with the world.
My focus
I have a true passion for helping adolescents and transitional-age youth along with their families navigate challenges in order to live their best lives now and in the future. I have experience working with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and family-of-origin concerns.
My communication style
I strive to create a safe and natural environment for each individual to be their true self. My style is warm and empathic while being direct and goal-oriented within each session. I believe a healthy mix of deep emotional exploration and light-hearted humor often creates the most productive therapeutic relationships.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always had a strong desire to understand people in hopes of being someone they can turn to for support and guidance through all of life's ups and downs. Although I have always had this heart for others, I found myself working with adolescents and young adults and wishing I knew how to help them through their darkest times. It was this experience that led me to pursue my master's and doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have continued to follow my passion for working with this population and find it incredibly rewarding to be a safe place and balanced voice for everyone that I meet with.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to learn what has brought each individual/family to seek therapy and spend some time getting to know their desired results. After gaining this understanding, we can collaboratively set goals for our time together, create a plan for how we will reach these goals, and continue to revisit our goals periodically throughout our sessions.
My first session with you
During the first session with me, we will take some time to review issues related to confidentiality, what therapy is, and what it will look like specifically with me, with the majority of the session being spent getting to know you and what has led you to begin therapy at this time.
