Hi, my name is Andrea Puente, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I am passionate about teaching individuals the necessary tools and techniques they may need to improve your mood, reduce stress, and overcome challenges.
My approach
My theoretical orientation with the work that I do includes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. Some of the interventions include journaling, keeping a thought record, identifying cognitive distortions, educating you on adaptive thinking strategies, behavior activation, sleep hygiene, and building communication skills. By learning and utilizing these skills, this will eventually lead to an increase in positive outlook and improved mood.
My focus
I have experience in providing therapeutic treatment for over 7 years. I have provided mental health treatment to adults involved in the justice system and also to adults in the general public. I also have experience providing short-term, goal-oriented therapy in various settings in the medical field.
My communication style
My communication style includes providing a calm and inviting environment where you will feel comfortable with sharing and engaging during our sessions. I want to create a space where you will feel supported with the goals and skills you wish to gain while receiving therapy that is based on your identified needs.
My journey to mental healthcare
My passion for becoming a therapist comes from my ability to connect with others through my listening skills. I understood how important it is for people to feel heard and seen. I have been able to do that not only through my professional career with my clients but also with colleagues, friends, and family. I have always been someone who celebrates the accomplishments of others and I truly enjoy supporting others.
My goals for you
Setting goals for treatment is helpful not only for you but also in guiding my therapeutic approach. Early during our sessions, through my interview techniques and assessments, I will help you develop goals by discussing needs, stressors, and areas of desired change. By ensuring we are addressing your needs and tracking our progress with your identified goals, will help address the needs that brought you to seek therapy.
My first session with you
During our first session, I want you to feel safe, without feeling nervous about the unknowns of therapy. I will ask questions to help me learn about you and what you have been experiencing recently. I understand that each person has individual issues and needs and during our first session, I want to get a better understanding of what that may look like for you.
