Hi! My name is Kristin Flowers and I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist here in beautiful California. I specialize in helping anxious people to heal and recover from perfectionism, gas lighting, and toxic relationships, as well as past events or memories that may still be impacting life in a negative way.
My approach
The therapeutic modality I use with each client is tailored to each client and their needs. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy with individuals. With couples, I use emotionally focused therapy that identifies communication and behavior patterns that couples get stuck in. For clients who want to work on trauma memories or other issues, I utilize EMDR and Brainspotting therapies.
My focus
I help people who are trying to be perfect and feel exhausted and wondering who they are anymore. The people I help are feeling anxious, lonely, and stressed out to the breaking point. Sleep is difficult if not impossible. Asking for help is so hard because you're so used to fixing everything yourself.
My communication style
I speak using everyday language--no big, fancy words here! I want to connect with each of my clients in an authentic way. I am myself which helps people to also be themselves. I strive to make the environment warm and inviting and want each client to feel at ease and feel also like I am listening to them. I also like to use humor, but am respectful, and also use an occasional "f" bomb.
My journey to mental healthcare
I truly enjoy helping others on their journey through life. It's very rewarding for me to help someone with something that is important to them.
My goals for you
I have a conversation with each client about what they want from therapy. Sometimes goals involve decreasing their mental health symptoms and to feel better. Each client is an individual and has their own issues and things they want to work on. I like to make SMART goals. These are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely.
My first session with you
I welcome all my clients to their first session with me and let them know about therapy and the therapeutic process to put them at ease. The first session is a getting-to-know-each-other appointment. It will consist of me asking you questions about your mental health symptoms as insurance requires a mental health diagnosis. We also talk about what you would like to get from therapy.
