My name is Melissa Morales, LCSW, CADC. My goal is to provide a safe and appropriate environment that fosters both acceptance and change utilizing an insight-oriented approach. My clinical expertise includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and have worked in various treatment settings.
My approach
My therapeutic approach consists of CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, and ACT.
My focus
My areas of focus are in treating adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, grief, substance use disorders, and trauma, including abusive/toxic relationships. I also have experience in working with first responders.
My communication style
Rapport and trust are essential to effective therapy to have those inherently difficult conversations and processing necessary for growth. You can rely on a nonjudgmental environment, and accountability where it is needed! I am great on follow up from previous sessions either on skills practice or other goals/action steps, and will readily provide resources, worksheets, book recommendations, somatic exercises, etc.
My journey to mental healthcare
Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an alcohol and drug counselor for 12 years. I realized during my time working as a counselor that there was so much more underneath the surface that needed to be addressed. Wanting to be a part of the solution inspired me to further my education, which opened up many doors and opportunity to inspire change and growth in others.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative experience between the client and therapist. These are YOUR goals! I am here to help guide the way with direction, reflection, and skills.
My first session with you
These are your sessions, and I want to make sure you are getting what you need from each session to help you accomplish your goals of wellness. Typically, after the initial assessment, I like to complete a genogram with my clients along with ecomapping to explore family histories, dynamics, relationships that influence current life situations and responses. This helps inform me of your story, what you have been through, and a sense of direction for treatment that will be most effective for you.
