My name is Gerardo Salinas. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist for more than 12 years. I have experience working with adults, youth, and families from varied life experiences. I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
My approach
I offer Talk, Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Art Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help resolve conflict, improve communication, and work to resolve trauma with both children and adults. Another focus I have is on early attachment and developmental needs. I also offer parent coaching to help with challenging behaviors at school or in the home.
My focus
I typically work with a diverse group of clients including children and adults to find solutions to life's challenges. I enjoy using a brief strategic approach to help resolve conflict and internal struggles. I feel comfortable working with children and families. In particular, I enjoy providing family therapy to help resolve miscommunication or misunderstandings. As a Latino, I have experience supporting the Black Indigenous People of Color (BiPOC) community.
My communication style
My goal is to provide a space that feels warm, non-judgmental, and more importantly helpful. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and many of the other effects and challenges of the world we live in. Overall, I believe that navigating these experiences feels better when we get to work through them with someone else.
My journey to mental healthcare
I really enjoy helping others. I started my career as a Social Worker and Therapist after working with youth in an after-school program. I love to listen and try to find ways to help people feel better. I have always been able to naturally find solutions to complex challenges. I like a challenge and love working in collaboration with my clients, and their families. I have faith in people and their ability to overcome challenges with the right support.
My goals for you
I help facilitate goal setting between each session to start the process of change and healing. I encourage small but achievable goals. I try to visit goals often to see what is working and where challenges continue to arise.
My first session with you
I do my best to create a safe space to talk and get to know one another. I like to listen and learn about you. I try to find a balance in the initial session to provide an opportunity for sharing why you started therapy, and I try to get as much information pertinent to the assessment to help me learn your history.
