Hi there, I'm Kimberly!

Hello, My name is Kimberly van Velzen. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Chemical Dependency Specialist. I am a person, professional, that is interested in helping people learn about, discover, accept, and get back to their authentic selves.

My approach

Each person is different and thus one single approach will not work for everyone. I have strengths in guiding people utilizing Solutions Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic, and Motivational Interviewing techniques.

My focus

My practice focuses on assisting professional individuals, stay-at-home parents, adolescents, couples, and those affected by substance abuse or addiction.

My communication style

I work by creating an environment that is calm, comfortable, inviting, and nonjudgemental space. I work with each person to learn about their personal reasons, expectations, fears, and, anxieties related to the therapeutic process.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have been working as a mental health therapist for twenty years. I am driven to help support, and at times guide, people through the process of self-discovery, self-improvement, and processing life events. I do what I do because it is such a great honor to bear witness to those who benefit from the therapeutic process with greater health, a reduction in anxiety, less depression, greater self-esteem, and improved relationships.

My goals for you

After the assessment process, I will work with each client to create a treatment plan. This included clarifying individual goals that helped focus the time spent in therapy.

My first session with you

During the first session, we will review the legal and ethical boundaries and expectations of the clients and therapist. Required forms will be reviewed as well as any crisis, safety, or pressing concerns. During the initial and likely into the second session the therapist will ask many questions to learn more about who you are, what your life looks like, where are you struggling, and ideas of what would you like to see improved in your life.
