My communication style
My paramount task is to provide a safe place where you may feel comfortable discussing your concerns. My communication style is interpersonal. I'm client-centered. Meaning, I will meet you where you're at while providing support, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have a B.A. in psychology from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama. I received my MSW from Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois. During high school, I became interested in understanding human behavior. As a result, I was drawn to studying psychology. Later in life, I became interested in social work primarily because of my own personal experiences and a passion for helping people. I have served as a mentor for adolescents, a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club, and worked with the homeless population. I interned as a social worker at a police department and a middle school. I have worked at a group home setting providing therapy for adolescents who were a ward of the state. I have a strong desire to help people facing challenges that are a barrier to them enjoying a more fulfilling life.
My goals for you
We will both work together to determine your goals and come to an agreement for your treatment plan. My primary goal is that you will find this therapeutic experience to be rewarding, and insightful. In addition, you will develop and master skills learned to apply to life circumstances and live a more fulfilling life.
My first session with you
Our initial session would involve beginning to establish a rapport by getting to know each other. I will want to know what you're experiencing and what brought you into therapy. After that, we will come up with objectives to target for treatment.
