My name is Maitri Joy and I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) living in California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. Working with adults, my specialties include Mood Disorders (Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder), Trauma (PTSD), and Addictions (Drug, Alcohol, Food, Sex). As a transpersonal psychotherapist, I offer a more Eastern, holistic approach, integrating a variety of meditation and visualization practices with cutting-edge psychotherapy modalities to offer you a way to make progress in feeling better fast.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client. Through Transpersonal Psychotherapy, I help you chart a clear path forward, developing tangible skills in emotional healing, inner compassion, self-confidence, and personal/spiritual understanding.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma and addictions of all kinds. I help my clients navigate these difficult periods by empathically listening, teaching, and modeling skills that aid them in developing an understanding of themselves; offering deep emotional, mental, and spiritual healing and growth.
My communication style
My communication style is empathic, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything. My focus is to actively listen without judgment; helping to uncover my client's deep emotions, needs, and desires.
My journey to mental healthcare
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to help others. As a teenager, I spent much of my time helping the environment, but then when I was in college I found psychology, which changed the course of my life forever. At the time I was already a long-time practitioner of meditation and realized that psychology was the missing link in being able to help others find their authentic voice and personal empowerment. Now I still spend time volunteering for the environment, as well as supporting my clients helping them become the best versions of themselves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative in nature. My desire is that we work in unison to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. The goals that we decide upon will become clear and will most likely change over time, as you find healing and growth through our time together.
My first session with you
For our first session together, my desire is to actively listen empathically to you, so that you feel comfortable in sharing your personal story with me. My hope is that after our first session together, you will begin to feel a little bit better knowing that you have an ally working with you, as you begin your healing process.
