Hi, my name is Leslie Westbrook, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#127260). I am passionate about helping clients achieve their goals, and I believe I have the skills and knowledge to do just that. I'm excited to learn more about you and how I can help.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe in taking an integrative approach that draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. I specialize in trauma-focused approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I strive to create an environment of trust and understanding, where clients can feel comfortable discussing difficult topics without fear of judgment. By working collaboratively, I hope to empower my clients to recognize their strengths and find the courage to move forward in life.
My focus
Mental health clients I work with come in many shapes and sizes and can have a variety of needs. A typical client of mine typically has a history of trauma, has difficulty managing difficult emotions, and may have difficulty with interpersonal relationships. It may be someone who is overwhelmed anxious or depressed. I work with teens, adults, and elderly clients.
My communication style
My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for my clients. I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable being open, honest, and vulnerable. My approach is collaborative, engaging, and nonjudgmental. I believe in creating a place of unconditional acceptance and understanding where clients feel heard and supported. I am committed to providing a space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a meaningful way.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist after a long and winding journey of self-discovery and academic study. My life experiences and my own personal trauma led me to a place and realization that I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to help others in a meaningful way. When I went through difficult life ‘stuff’, I didn’t know where to go or what to do; I had no direction. So I pushed on, not attending to my emotions or the impact the traumatic event had on me. Once I was able to get healed, I developed a passion for helping people understand their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in order to create positive and lasting change in their lives. I am driven to help people heal and move in purpose, on purpose. I continue to learn and grow as a therapist every day, and I am thankful I found a career that allows me to help others. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to work with people helping them reach their goals and heal from traumatic experiences and generational trauma.
My goals for you
When I work with clients to set goals, I like to start by getting to know the client and their needs and interests. The next step is to have an open and honest conversation about their desired outcomes and what they would like to achieve. We then break down those desired outcomes into smaller, achievable goals. I find it important to create a timeline for each goal and to ensure that the goals are attainable and realistic.
My first session with you
During your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming, safe, and non-judgmental atmosphere. We will take the time to get to know each other and discuss your goals for therapy. We will also discuss the therapeutic process and I will answer any questions that you may have. I will provide you with information about different therapeutic approaches and techniques that may help you gain insight into your life and make positive changes. Together, we will develop a plan for our work that will help you move toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.
