My name is Bianca Filion. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT). I am skilled in using traditional mental health therapy, EMDR, expressive arts therapy, and dance/movement therapy with diverse populations. My therapeutic work is centered on the client-therapist relationship and the body-mind connection.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to engage the whole person in order to integrate the mind and body. Artistic expression can be used to deepen the therapeutic work through the creative process. I view my clients holistically and utilize the knowledge I gain regarding their life history and their social atmosphere to guide them in therapy. I work collaboratively with my clients to make meaningful change, respecting my clients’ individuality and autonomy.
My focus
I specialize in helping individuals with a range of issues, including, but not limited to, mood, relationships, stress, co-occurring substance use, life transitions, and self-esteem. I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming and supportive therapist, with a special interest in helping people live authentically and solidify their confidence in their identities.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, personable, and encouraging. I hold a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere and listen empathically to my clients. I guide my clients toward their goals through questions and reflections. I can be direct in suggesting interventions, and sometimes I give homework.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to dance/movement therapy because it joined my two interests, dance and psychology, and because I believe in the power of movement. I enjoy the relationships I form with my clients and I love helping people grow their authentic selves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to work collaboratively with my clients to set goals which will address their needs and concerns. As I learn about you, I listen for your goals and work with you to identify what we will be working on in therapy. I want to help you uncover the source of your distress and find strategies that work for you in order to achieve health.
My first session with you
In a first session, I like to get to know you and your background. I listen for your therapeutic goals and work with you to identify what we will be working on in therapy. In subsequent sessions, I encourage you to bring in topics you feel are important, and I will work to guide you toward your goals using appropriate activities, whether that is movement, art, EMDR, or specific handouts and homework.
