Hello, my name is Sarah Kagin. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California offering teletherapy. I work with children, adolescents, families, and adults. I have experience addressing a myriad of challenges specifically, depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, grief/loss, career/identity issues, life adjustments, relational challenges, and parenting struggles.
My approach
My approach to therapy is collaborative and client-centered. I am passionate about providing a safe space for clients to process current and past issues, and begin to heal, and make progress in their lives. I utilize a variety of modalities depending on the needs of the client/s, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
My focus
I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community counseling clinics, college counseling centers, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools. I have experience working with culturally diverse populations and LGBTQIAA populations. I frequently treat depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, life transitions, relational challenges, and self-image/esteem.
My communication style
You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental, and warm environment. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and collaborative approach to create positive change. I tailor my methods for each client/s, as each individual is unique, and presents with different circumstances. I hold space to address challenges impacting your life and explore what patterns may be contributing to distress. I utilize clients' personal strengths to help them build insight and develop healthy coping skills.
My journey to mental healthcare
The decision to become a therapist was born out of a strong desire to help others. I genuinely feel privileged to sit authentically and empathically with clients, as they unravel the complexities of life. I recognize the incredible fortitude required to seek support and consider it an honor to embark on this journey with clients.
My goals for you
Goal setting is an important part of the therapeutic process. My approach involves working with the client to define what they are hoping to accomplish and address throughout the therapeutic journey. We will work together to explore how to build resiliency and explore paths towards personal growth while re-evaluating goals and progress throughout our work together.
My first session with you
In our first session, I will want to understand what led you to seek counseling, how you are currently feeling, and the circumstances in your life contributing to that. I will also want to address your prior therapeutic experiences and explain the therapeutic process if you are new to therapy. I will establish a trusting environment with you, and begin to assess what approaches to addressing your unique circumstances might be most helpful.
