Welcome, I am Dr. Sue Pollington. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of California, Nevada, and Montana, for the past 36 years. Focusing on cliented centered treatment as each person is unique and deserves the attention and time needed to focus on attaining their goals. As as Therapist I am here for you, not the other way around.
My approach
My theraputic approach with clients is based on their needs. This may call for cognative behavioral therapys, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational therapy aproaches or a host of other modalities which we discuss and decide on together. The client is the head of our treatment team, I am a resource and support for the client's journey.
My focus
Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to work with all ages of clients. At this time I am focused primarily on working with adults, couples and families.
My communication style
My aproach to thereapy is conversational. There is a dialogue and a collaboration where trust is built to overcome issues and create a quality of life that sustains and nourishes.
My journey to mental healthcare
My story of becoming a therapist began when my childhood friends would bring me animals and themselves for help, it might be a bandaid or a sholder to lean on. It might be to share sadness with them. This created in me a wonder at how amazing people are, how much we try to cope. When the opportunity to become a therapist opened for me it felt familiar and wonderful to be able to walk with someone in difficult times and be present for them. Therapy is one of my favorite things to do.
My goals for you
Goal setting for therapy is about what the client wants and the path to reaching goals should be enjoyable. Because honestly, if it's not enjoyable we as people won't want to do it. So not only are the goals positively focused so is the path to getting there.
My first session with you
In our first session, expect questions, none of which do you have to answer. I want to get to know you for who you are not just what you do or don't do. I will be seeking to understand what you want and need so I can explore how therapy can assist you.
