Hello! My name is Rachel Smith, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to therapy is very client-focused. I want you to feel comfortable sharing anything and everything with me, but I also recognize that trust is built. I want you to feel truly heard while working to incorporate practical solutions and techniques into your daily life.
My approach
My goal is to walk alongside you and give a perspective that will help you process, grow, and make the changes that are in line with your personal goals. This is YOUR time, not mine. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques with client-centered approaches.
My focus
While I've worked with all ages in the past, my main type of clients served is from ages 15-45, working through anxiety, depression, major life transitions, perinatal processing (pre and post-pregnancy), and ADHD management.
My communication style
When working with me as your therapist, trust is important - sometimes this happens within the first session, and sometimes it takes multiple; both are perfectly fine. Sessions can be very structured with skill building or more focused on verbal processing depending on what clients are seeking. I want you to feel comfortable to be honest with me, as therapy won't be optimized until that trust and honesty are built.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because I love people's stories. I love to be an ear that slows down and truly listens in a fast-paced world. Life is sometimes easy, sometimes hard, and sometimes downright overwhelming and difficult, and I want to help others through all of those seasons like others have helped me.
My goals for you
Goals give us direction and a sense of accomplishment when completed. They are an important part of the process but should be collaboratively created between both the client and therapist and adjusted as needed.
My first session with you
A first session is all about getting to know you, the client, and seeing if it's a good personality fit with me as your therapist. I'll gather some background information, your current situation, and what your goals are. You won't be pressured to share everything, but the better of a big picture I can get, the best I can help you in the long run.
